Your Guide To Buying A Car

When buying a car there are many decisions that need to be made and questions that need to be answered.

These include: to buy new or used, how to finance the purchase, how to insure the vehicle, how to look after the vehicle and how to trade in an existing vehicle if appropriate. To help you with this process we have put together a guide that you can use when making the decision. Buying a vehicle is a big decision, and to make sure you make the right selection for you it is important that you research what vehicles are available on the internet is a great place to start, here you can take your time and find out as much about your choices as possible.

3 ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS
RELIABILITY, SIZE & ECONOMY

When deciding what car you want there are three essential elements you need to consider, and that is the reliability of the vehicle, the size of the vehicle that you will need (will a 3 door hatch do, or do you nee a 4WD) and the economy of the vehicle. Remember, you buy a vehicle to increase what you get out of life! To define what you priorities are in each of these elements you need to be informed, practical and budget conscious.

VEHICLE CHECKLIST

If you are comparing several vehicles it may be handy to put together a checklist that you can go through for each vehicle, identifying; its age, kilometres travelled, price, style (hatch, sedan, 4WD etc), performance, safety features, accessory features and other elements you would like your vehicle to have (boot space, warranty etc). By going through the same checklist for all vehicles that you look at it will enable you to make a clearer comparison.

NEW OR USED?

The decision to buy new or used often comes down to price Today many new cars are available at unbelievable prices, allowing people to buy new when in the past would have only been able to afford used. Through Lincorp we have hundreds of different used cars available to choose from, meaning there is no shortage of choice if it is a used car you would like. We also have extended warranty packages available on our complete range of used vehicles

BUDGET

It is important that you set a budget for the amount of money that you would like to spend. A good way to determine how much you can afford is to sit down with one of our FSRA accredited business managers. They can go through your financing and insurance options with you and determine how much you can borrow if needed.

TEST DRIVE

Once your budget is sorted out and you've short listed some vehicles. Its time to test drive the vehicles. When test driving a vehicle make sure you get a feel for what the vehicle is really like. See how easy it is to park, if there are any blind spots, even how the stereo sounds! The most important thing for you to do here is to make sure you get as much out of the drive and enjoy the experience.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Once you have made the decision on what vehicles to purchase, you then need to decide what extras - such as accessories, window tinting, paint protection, etc. that you would like. At this stage contracts are signed, finance organised if needed, and the vehicle is registered. It is now up to you to make sure your vehicle is insured; Third Party is mandatory and comprehensive is recommended.

REGULAR SERVICES

Once you have your vehicle home it is important to look after it, whether it is new or used it is important to service your vehicle at the recommended intervals - even if you don't think it needs it! By regularly servicing your vehicle, you keep it in top running condition, and in the long term will cost you less.

COMMITMENT

Owning a car is a big commitment, and to get the most out of it you need to choose the correct vehicle for you and then continue to maintain the vehicle once you get home. Maintenance of your vehicle includes things you can do yourself, such as checking oil levels and tyre pressures, as well as having your vehicle serviced at the required intervals by qualified technicians. By doing this, you extend the life of your vehicle, as well as save money in the future.
