The i30 represents a new mark in Hyundai engineering and design. Styled at Hyundai's European Research and Technical Centre in Russelsheim, Germany, and benchmarked against the best of the Euro small hatches. i30 utilises the Euro-hatch formula of long wheelbase, wide wheel stance and short, high overhang, maximising interior depth.

This car is available in 3 trim levels, a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic is offered on the 2.0L petrol engine while the 1.6L common rail diesel is available in five-speed manual or four-speed auto.

Equipment level in the cars are generally high. The base model SX includes ABS, dual front air bags, anti-whiplash front headrests, power windows and heated exterior mirrors, remote control locking, reach and rake adjustable steering wheel.

There is also a height adjustable driver's seat, air conditioning with pollen filter, interated iPod abd USB connections, four-speaker stereo and 15" steel wheels. Standard stability control is available as part of the Protectz pack.

In the SLX, there's standard 16" alloys with wider 205/55 rubber, fog lamps, steering wheel mounted audio and cruise controls (on petrol model only), automatic climate control, trip computer, two additional speakers and leather trimmed wheel and gear lever.

The top of the range SR offers ESP and traction control as standard, 17" bright finished alloys with 225/45 rubber, body kit of side skirts and rear spoiler, premium radio with in-dash 6 CD Stacker and leater-trimmed seat bolsters.

Two engines are available - a 2.0L/4 Cylinder petrol with 105kW and 186Nm and a 1.6L/4 Cylinder CRDi diesel with 85kW and 225Nm.

Transmissions are a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic, front wheel drive.

Fuel economy is an 7.2L/100km (petrol) and 4.7L/100km (diesel).

A big plus for buyers seeking minimum-fuss motoring is the warranty which stands at five years/unlimited kms.

Available in models; SX, SX CRDi, SLX, SLX CRDi, SR.
