Choose from the fuel efficient petrol 3.8-litre V6 with 146kW and 315Nm, or the 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel with 130kW and 410Nm.

Transmission choices are: 6-speed manual, 4-speed automatic (petrol), and a 5-speed automatic (diesel).

Wrangler's off-road capability has been increased with disconnectable front sway bars, while a three-mode electronic stability control and electronic roll mitigation is now standard. Four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and brake traction control are also standard.

The seating position in the new Wrangler is high for tremendous visibility, and the seats themselves are made for quick access.

Dual airbags are standard and Wrangler was awarded a four-star rating in the US crash-test program. A roll-cage is standard, complete with padding and high-mounted radio speakers.
