The Lancer CJ is one of only two cars in its class to have stability control standard across the range. Along with front air bags, a driver's knee air bag, anti-lock brakes, break-away pedals and active restraints. Side and curtain air bags are an extra option on the ES model but are standard on the VR and VRX. With all seven air bags, the Lancer scored a five-star occupant protection rating in European crash tests.

The Lancer has a 2.0L (113kW, 198Nm) four-cyclinder engine and uses just 7.7L/100Kms. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard.

Standard equipment on the ES model includes power steering, air conditioning, CD Player with MP3 compatibility, height-adjustable driver's seat, 16" steel wheels and 60-40 split-fold rear seats.

The VR models come with extras including 16" alloy wheels, front fog lights, leather-trim steering wheel, park brake and gear knob, automatic air-conditioning, rain sensing wipers and six disc CD player.

The sporty VRX has sports-tuned suspension, larger brakes, rear spoiler, 18" alloy wheels, privacy glass, keyless entry, Bluetooth hands-free phone setup and steering wheel-mounted controls. Options include sunroof and premium audio system.

All Lancers have Mitsubishi's five-year/130,000km factory warranty and 10-year/160,000km powertrain warranty.
