With innovative features and the ultimate in styling, the new Outlander V6 is the premium sports 4WD, loaded with technology to power you around town or on your weekend escapes.

Its powerful body lines and aggressive grille and headlight treatment give the Outlander a distinctive appearance that stands out from the crowd.

Power comes from a DOHC 2.4-litre 16-valve four-cylinder engine with variable valve timing that pumps out 125kW of power and 226Nm of torque, and around town it will happily keep up with traffic.

Mitsubishi's super smooth 4 cyclinder CVT Auto / 6 speed manual mode is also part of the standard package. (V6 is an all 6 speed Auto.) When you feel like it, just slip the smooth-changing transmission into sports mode and do some shifting for yourself.

Dynamically the Outlander sets a class standard. It's impressively quiet and reassuringly stable at highway speeds with little road or wind noise. Move off the bitumen onto rough gravel roads and this impression is reinforced.

Outlander rides, steers and behaves exceptionally well, and the disc/drum brakes remain fade-free under even hard braking. Over particularly rough corrugations, the suspension remains supple, the cabin vibration-free and the steering requires little correction to keep the car on line.

Mitsubishi's extensive rallying knowledge has been put to good use. Outlander can be powered ahead with enthusiasm while the MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension cushions occupants without losing its composure.

Body roll is well controlled and the full-time viscous coupled all-wheel-drive unit offers a reassuring margin of safety.

Inside there's plenty of room for adults. The dash-mounted gearshift is high and out of the way. There's a large, lidded storage bin between the front seats below the fold-down centre armrest that also contains a fold-down tray with two cupholders and a padded coin tray.

Rear-seat occupants are well catered for with a fold-down central armrest housing cupholders as well. The rear seats are split 60/40 and fold flat and there's a spare in the back. A third row option is also available.

Dual front airbags, ABS brakes, air-conditioning, a high-quality sound system, cruise control and a trip computer are all standard with Outlander.
